The term "the Wyld" is used to describe the areas where the impact of the Darkstorm on the world is most dramatic, causing the very fabric of reality to unravel and the rules that typically bind reality together to slowly come undone. These areas are vast and common, and in the beginning of the Fourth Age have pushed the world into a post-apocalyptic state as it attempts to recover from all that was lost as a result of the Darkstorm.

Exposure to the Wyld can cause mutations, sickness and other debilitiating conditions that can (and frequently do) eventually result in death. Some creatures survive the taint of the Wyld, and are instead mutated into horrible new creatures that vary widely and seem to have no uniform structure.
